One of the most hyped horror movies of the year lives up to its reputation and more, combining absurdist black comedy, razor-sharp wit and, of course, bloody terror in another terrific addition to the burgeoning British horror scene.

A group of farcically caricaturized defense contractors heads to the mountains of Hungary for a weekend of corporate bonding at a swanky chalet, only to get lost and end up in a decidedly un-luxurious lodge. Of course, there is a masked murderer on the loose with a vendetta against the contractors, possibly due to a shady clean-up of Soviet-era prison camps performed by the company a decade ago (a subtext of social satire on the military-industrial complex runs throughout the film to hilarious effect). From the very beginning the film builds quickly but slyly, teasing with visual jokes and false alarms that shrewdly play on audience expectations and wink at genre conventions. Even when the body count starts to rise, the over-the-top gallows humor doesn't let up, leading to a series of priceless and audacious scenes that negotiate the line between terror and side-splitting laughs; the two often coming hand-in-hand without detracting from either one. Often described as the unlikely premise of the BBC's "The Office" re-imagined as a horror movie, the description is actually very accurate of a set-up that's surprisingly genius.
